- Where did you grow up? What brought you to Arizona?
We moved around a lot when I was a kid, for various reasons, but most of the time it was for my dad’s job. All of the moves were around NY and a few other Northeastern states. I moved out to AZ because I was sick of the cold winters and it was proving to be really difficult finding a teaching job on the East coast. I have family out here, so I decided to move in with them for a little while and see how I liked it.
- Why are you in the LA group?
Honestly, I think it is a good idea. I know that good friends should listen to their friends goals and support them, but sometimes life gets in the way and we don’t help out and listen as much as we should. This group helps us to remember the importance of being there for your friends.
- What things do you find yourself doing that you said/thought you’d never do?
After college, I said that I was done with school forever, but I found my way back. I like learning too much 🙂
- What would you splurge on if someone handed you $1000 right now?
I would buy clothes! My wardrobe is quite sad right now, and with my internship and future job interviews, I could really use some more professional clothing.
- What are you most proud of in your life?
My relationship with my mom, dad and brother. Even though my parents have been divorced for over 10 years we somehow still work very well as a unit. My parents don’t talk very often, but are still always there to help my brother and I, and vise versa. It is a great support system.
- What did you want to be when you “grow up”?
Well, during the summers, I would force my poor brother to sit in front of a chalkboard while I played school and gave him spelling tests. So, I think I wanted to be a teacher from an early age. I also toyed with the idea of becoming a marine biologist.
- When people look back at your life, how would you want to be remembered?
I want to be remembered as being thoughtful, caring, and inspiring.
- Who is your celebrity idol and why?
I like Drew Barrymore. I like how she doesn’t care what others think of her. She says what’s on her mind. She’s quirky, fun-loving, and always seems to have a smile on her face. Her energy seems contagious.
- What’s the biggest goal you’re working toward?
Balance in my life. Balance between work, friends, family, exercise…etc.
- Describe one of your best childhood memories.
On a trip to Florida, I was hell-bent on finding a giant conch shell on the beach. On the last day of our stay my parents took us for a walk on the beach, and I stepped on a lump in the sand. I exlpored further and dug up the biggest, most beatiful conch shell I had ever seen. I was so excited! Turns out, as I found out several years later, my dad had gotten up very early that day, bought a conch shell from the gift shop and buried it in the sand for me to find. I still have the shell.
- What is your biggest pet peeve?
People that are not willing to be open-minded.
- Any nicknames you’ve been given that you love/hate?
Apparently, in the 80’s there was a basketball player with the last name Elrod. So, my mom’s side of the family all calls me Kelrod. It has been that way since before I can remember.
- What is your favorite song, and why? (Yes, you have to pick just one)
Name, by the Goo Goo Dolls. The man (Johnny Rzeznik) is a lyrical genious. I have always related to the line “Scars are souvenirs you never lose, the past is never far.” Very.deep.stuff.
